The best source of free, streaming,
New Canadian Music
is
CBC Radio 3

Eric maintains a playlist there, called soulwindows.com.   Play CBC Radio 3 media player

CBC Radio 3 produced a "Best User Playlists of 2006" show, and the Soulwindows.com playlist was included!  Host, Lauren Burrows interviewed me and the program is online here.  Soulwindows.com is featured half-way through Part 1, which is about 35 minutes long.

I'm reminded of the "Bring out your dead!" scene in Monty Python and the Holy Grail, where the old man being carried out is saying, "But I'm not dead yet!"   Lauren's calculations of my age differ slightly from mine — I'm clinging to the almost-two-years I think I have in the bag.  But, more optimistically, I am very happy to be enjoying music passionately, "forever".

The Soulwindows.com playlist at CBC Radio 3 is a musical adventure, crossing genres and a continent.

More on R3...

What's cool about CBC R3 online player is that you, the listener, can skip ahead when you hit a song you don't care for.  Try it on my playlist - you just might find a song you REALLY like.

The thing depends, I think, on you having Adobe Flash, a fairly good internet connection and some reasonable computer speed.  Sounds like a lot, but it works for me.  Full songs with good sound quality.

"What is 'Canadian' music?"

Here it is baby.  This is Canadian stuff, much of it coming from Vancouver, BC.  Lots of energy, funk, a bit of weirdness, electronica, some roots, from Victoria, Vancouver, Winnipeg, Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal, to Halifax and on to Newfoundland.  Aboriginal too.  A whole lot of creativity here.  Check 'em out, and go to the artist pages, eh?   And tell me what you think.

On the soulwindows.com playlist you'll find Electronica, Downbeat, Ambient, Dub, Down Tempo, Electro, Soul, Jazz, Funk, Blues, Afro-beat, Techno, Swing, Space Pop, Hip Hop, Alt Pop, IDM, Turntablism, singer-songwriter and even some acoustic roots-country.

While a playlist song is playing on the CBC Radio 3 player (only then), you can click on the artist and track name, and  artist information will appear.  I encourage you to do so, hear more music, and maybe buy some.  From the musician's site that is - not from Soulwindows.com.
